Effective June 9, 2013, the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) will only retain files for 90 days. This is a reduction from the 180 days that has heretofore been the data retention period. The data retention period is how long ED retains files in the system that are transmitted via the SAIG. Schools should ensure that all files that are stored in archive or that have not yet been pulled in from their SAIG mailboxes are retrieved and appropriately handled prior to June 9, 2013. Any files in SAIG that are older than 90 days as of June 9, 2013 will no longer be able to be retrieved or accessed in SAIG.

What kind of files are we talking about? Please advise.
It is any file that is transmitted through the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG). Schools may refer to SAIG as their “SAIG Mailbox” which they access with their TG numbers. There is nothing new in this regard. The files could include ISIR files, School Account Statements, NSLDS reports, Entrance or Exit Counseling reports, Cohort Default Rate (CDR) reports and notices, etc. And, it would partly depend, I guess, upon what level of servicing we do for the school, if any. (I am not sure of all the levels of servicing we do for all our various clients.)
And, it is only the fact that SAIG is reducing (let me correct that to “has reduced” as of June 9) the period of time that they store files in archive on their system. It is going from 180 days down to 90 days. So, whatever steps she took to retrieve or save files coming in via SAIG before last Sunday will be the same steps she will need to still take. It just means that she will have to do so within 90 days vs. 180 days. After 90 days they are no longer available to retrieve and pull in from SAIG.
If she has specific questions about the file names or message classes, it would probably be best for her to contact Tech Support at FAME. Or, there was a contact e-mail provided in the May 8, 2013 Electronic Announcement that announced this. That contact info was provided as: “If you have questions about this information, contact CPS/SAIG Technical Support at 800/330-5947 (TDD/TTY 800/511-5806) or by e-mail at CPSSAIG@ed.gov.”
