(GENERAL-22-78) Extension of Audit Due Date for Proprietary Institutions Affected by Hurricanes

AUTHOR: Office of Postsecondary Education
ELECTRONIC ANNOUNCEMENT ID: GENERAL-22-78

The Department of Education is extending the audit due dates for certain proprietary institutions under the authority of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Act. This extension is effective for those institutions that are located in a federally declared disaster area as a consequence of hurricanes Fiona or Ian and whose audits have a due date between September 18 and December 31, 2022. The new audit due date for these institutions is the earlier of six months from the previous due date or 30 days after the completion of the audit.

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has also granted a six month extension to recipients in federally declared disaster areas affected by hurricanes Fiona or Ian with audits that have similar due dates. More information can be found at the Federal Audit Clearinghouse website.

Institutions should refer to Dear Colleague Letters GEN-17-08 and GEN-17-09 and the documents appended to those letters for additional general guidance related to Title IV administration and school operations following federally declared disasters due to hurricanes, including those affected by hurricanes Fiona or Ian.
